Overview
Open Wednesdays through Sundays, Bok Bar brings five nights of rooftop action to South Philadelphia.
Based out of a former vocational school closed by the School District of Philadelphia in 2013, the 340,000-square-foot building that the bar sits atop covers an entire city block and is home to a variety of innovative tenants, including glass blowers, architects, bakers, photographers, tattoo artists and more.
Details of both the community’s creative spirit and its historical past shine through in the newly furnished Bok Bar. This year, artists were invited to submit their portfolio for an opportunity to design and create a new collection of furniture to be used on the rooftop. The result was a collaborative creation of tables, benches, stools, chairs, high tops and more, including pieces like a long communal table constructed out of old school desks and a chalkboard-topped table.
Food and Drinks
Humble Dumpling, a concept by Hayden Mink, takes over the Bok Bar’s kitchen this season. Guests can look forward to $1 dumplings in both meat and veggie versions, pork belly rice bowls and tacos with a scallion pancake twist.
Humble Dumpling will be serving up delicious and affordable eats Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Bok Bar’s drink menu is equally creative, offering a ton of different options including beer, red, white and rose wine and bubbly libations. Plenty of summery choices are available ranging from session IPAs to pineapple cider to radlers to spiked seltzer.
Fun non-alcoholic drinks are available as well, including La Colombe cold brew cans and kombucha from Inspired Brews.
So, get ready for plenty of rooftop relaxation this summer and be sure to bring your camera along for the ride!
